Peter Christley, 58, was blasted four times at point-blank range on his doorstep in what police believe was a bungled gangland hit.

BRITISH expat was left fighting for life after being shot in Spain – in a possible case of mistaken identity.
Peter Christley, 58, was blasted four times at point-blank range on his doorstep in what police believe was a bungled gangland hit.
Neighbours near the Benalmadena resort on the Costa del Sol found Mr Christley slumped in a pool of blood. He was taken to hospital in Malaga where doctors had to remove two bullets from his intestines.
Mr Christley, who is on a ventilator, is thought to have been renting his house for six years.
A police source added: “He was shot twice in the stomach then, we believe, in the buttock and leg as he turned to flee. The victim has no convictions in Spain but we are looking into the possibility this was a revenge attack linked to organised crime. However it is possible this man was the victim of mistaken identity and has no links to organised crime.”
Mr Christley is the second Brit this month to survive a shooting in the area, known as the Costa del Crime. Fitness firm chief Thomas Farrell, 54, was blasted in the face on January 3.

Wife-killer McArdle to fight against extradition

Wife-killer McArdle to fight against extradition - National News, Frontpage - Independent.ie: "Wife-killer Dermot McArdle looks set to prolong his battle against imprisonment in Spain after a special hearing of the High Court yesterday heard he now intends appealing his extradition to the Supreme Court.

The 42-year-old, from Dundalk, Co Louth, had already exhausted all legal appeals in Spain when he was arrested yesterday after surrendering himself at Dundalk garda station on foot of a European Arrest Warrant for his imprisonment for the killing of his wife, Kelly-Anne Corcoran, in February 2000.

Det Sgt Jim Kerwin told Mr Justice Barry White about arresting McArdle: 'He said there is a Supreme Court case pending and I have documents to prove it. That is the only reason I have not surrendered myself.'

Det Sgt Kerwin told the court that he went to McArdle's house at Brookfield, Haggardstown, Dundalk, yesterday morning, on foot of the warrant for his extradition. He said McArdle was not there but he was able to make contact with him and he agreed to present himself at Dundalk garda station, which he did.

Det Sgt Kerwin presented him with copies of the warrant in both Spanish and English and advised him of his rights."

Drug Bust Shows Argentina-Europe Trafficking Ties

Drug Bust Shows Argentina-Europe Trafficking Ties - NYTimes.com: "A major cocaine bust in Spain is highlighting the growing drug-trafficking ties between Argentina and Europe and causing headaches for the government of Argentina’s president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

The Spanish authorities in Barcelona seized an executive jet from Argentina this month that was carrying about 2,000 pounds of cocaine. An Argentine company specializing in private medical transfers, Medical Jet, was operating the plane, which was being flown by pilots whose fathers were generals during Argentina’s bloody dictatorship.

Investigators in Spain and Argentina have remained tight-lipped about the inquiry, but questions have swirled around the possible involvement of Argentine military officials and politicians who flew on Medical Jet, and deeper connections to Colombian and Mexican drug cartels.

Last week, the Argentine Air Force dismissed Commodore Jorge Ayerdi, the head of the Morón air base, where the Challenger 604 plane took off on Jan. 1, Argentina’s state news agency reported.

Arturo Puricelli, Argentina’s defense minister, has expressed concern about the possible involvement of the air force, saying Wednesday in a radio interview that he would push for an investigation. “There is great indignation about the case within the air force,” Mr. Puricelli said."

El Cuco tells the police that he saw Marta's body and a lot of blood: "‘El Cuco’ the underage man who is accused of taking part in the murder of Marta del Castillo in Sevilla two years ago, is reported to have almost confessed more about his participation in the disposal of the body.

It happened as he was being transferred from Jáen to Sevilla for his trial, when National Police investigators told him that they had found his DNA mixed with that of Marta’s at the scene of the crime in the flat in Calle León XIII, home of Miguel Carcaño, the self-confessed killer.

Man extradited from Spain in court over 1995 burglary

warrant against Gary Marno from Clonmeen, in Drumgor, Craigavon, was originally issued in 1996 after Marno failed to turn up for sentencing.

He had pleaded guilty to the burglary of a warehouse in Belfast in November 1995 and attempting to steal £80,000 worth of coffee and confectionery.

Marno was remanded in custody to appear at a later date.

Appearing in the dock of Belfast Magistrates' Court 46-year-old Gary Marno did not speak during the short hearing.

Detective Constable Adams said he executed the warrant which was originally issued by Crown Court Judge Derick Rodgers in 1996 after Marno failed to turn up for sentencing.

Solicitor Richard Montief told the court he had appeared for Marno at the time, but that his firm would need to see the papers in the case again as they have 'long since vanished'.

No bail application was lodged and Marno was remanded into custody to appear in front of Judge Rodgers on a date to be fixed."

Police swoops across Europe on marijuana network which laundered money on the Costa Brava

Police swoops across Europe on marijuana network which laundered money on the Costa Brava: "Simultaneous searches were taking place in a number of European countries on Tuesday, in police swoops on an international network which is believed to have laundered up to 3 million € of drugs money.

The network was based in Holland and had been in operation since 2002, providing supplies from a grow shop in Wijchen to set up marijuana plantations, not only in the Netherlands, but also in other countries in Europe.

They invested some of their funds in luxury properties on the Costa Brava, and it’s understood that two properties belonging to the group’s leaders in Calonge, Girona province, were searched early on Tuesday morning. Others in the area have also been sealed off.

Twenty five searches, co-ordinated by Dutch police, took place in total in Spain, Holland, Belgium, Germany, the UK, the Czech Republic and on the Caribbean island of Aruba.

In a separate case, Spain’s Civil Guard released details on Tuesday of ‘Operation Pizzo’, a drugs operation which has seen the arrest of 18 suspects in Cádiz, Barcelona, Pontevedra, Sevilla, Málaga and the Canary Islands."

Glasgow man is facing extradition to Spain for allegedly attempting to smuggle nearly three tons of cannabis into Britain

Alleged Scots cannabis smuggler faces trial in Spain | Glasgow and West | STV News: "A Glasgow man is facing extradition to Spain for allegedly attempting to smuggle nearly three tons of cannabis into Britain.

Stephen Kane, 30, was arrested in St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex, in September last year on suspicion of being part of an international drug-smuggling gang.

He and two other people are accused of attempting to transport £8.6m of cannabis on a catamaran bound for the south-west coast of England.

The vessel, named the Cariro 2, was boarded by police in the sea between Spain and Morocco.

Mr Kane, who is currently on remand at Wandsworth Prison, was refused bail after a High Court judge in London heard there was a 'significant risk' he might go on the run.

The offences he is charged with in Spain carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Mr Justice Burnett said: 'My conclusion is that there is a significant risk of absconding here, given the circumstances, and that the combination of conditions offered go nowhere to ameliorate the risk.'"

Derek "Deco" Ferguson has been hiding out in Puerto Banus on the Costa Del Sol where he has stayed one step ahead of Scottish detectives despite a warrant being issues for his arrest.

Derek "Deco" Ferguson has been hunted for four years by murder squad detectives probing two killings.
They are desperate to quiz him about the deaths of barman Tam Cameron, 49, and hoodlum Billy Bates, 43.
The Sunday Mail today reveals the fugitive's face in a bid to help track him down as sources claim he is living the high-life in a millionaire's playground in Spain.
Sources say Ferguson was smuggled out of the country by a gangland tycoon from Calton, in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, the families of the victims in the double murder being probed by detectives hunting Ferguson are sti ll waiting for justice.
Tam was shot in the chest in the car park of the Auchinairn Tavern in Bishopbriggs in June 2007.
Bates - who was also a suspect in Tam's killing - was discovered dead in an oil drum weeks later.
A European arrest warrant was issued for Ferguson later that year and Strathclyde Police have insisted his face cannot be revealed ever since.
David Whitton, Labour MSP for Bishopbriggs, where the first murder took place, said "It is absolutely right that the public are given the opportunity to recognise this man and would like to know exactly what is being done to execute his arrest warrant.
"I remember meeting Tam Cameron while canvassing and his shocking death had ter r ible ramifications.
"In the interests of justice, everything possible must be done to bring this man back to Scotland."
Labour justice spokesman Richard Baker said: "Derek Ferguson has apparently chosen to leave Scotland and has avoided questioning for four years.
"It is right to highlight this man and questions must be asked why he has evaded police questioning for so long."
Tory justice spokesman John Lamont said: "This is a man who has evaded justice for four years and it's important that he is caught as soon as possible.
"Revealing his face will surely help in that process and it's certainly in the public interest for the public to know what he looks like."
Tam Cameron's family have so far refused to comment about the case.
But a gangland source said: "It has surprised people that Ferguson has not been caught by now.
"People were expecting to see him back in months but years have passed.
"He seems to have been forgotten about."
It is believed Tam was murdered after discovering a member of his family had been bullied into helping commit a bank fraud.
Detectives wanted to question Bates and Ferguson, both from Possil in Glasgow, over his death.
Bates's decomposed corpse was found crammed in a drum in the River Clyde, near the Erskine Bridge.
He had suffered a brutal and sustained attack two weeks before.
Convicted heroin dealer Bates's family only managed to identify him when police showed them photos of two gold rings he was wearing.
He had just been released from prison and had been earning money as an enforcer.
Strathclyde Police suspect he was killed because he wanted to hand himself in for questioning. The force yesterday declined to comment.
Tam's murder came just 18 months after his son Ross, 20, died after being stabbed at a party.
Andrew Burns attacked Ross in the early hours of New Year's Day 2006 and was convicted of culpable homicide at the High Court in Edinburgh.
He was jailed for nine years.DISCLAIMER:Text may be subject to copyright. This blog does not claim copyright to any such text. Copyright remains with the original copyright holder.

Google appeals Spain mandate to take down links

Google appeals Spain mandate to take down links - BusinessWeek: "Lawyers for Google are appealing demands by Spanish authorities that the U.S. company delete links to websites containing information that officials say violate Spaniards' privacy rights.

The cases dealt with Wednesday include a surgeon who was absolved of charges of malpractice in a case in 1991, but a Spanish newspaper reference to the original case still crops up whenever his name is keyed into Google's search engine.

Google Inc. says it's the first case of its kind and that a Spanish decision mandating the deletion of the links could hurt freedom of expression.

Spain's Data Protection Agency says it went after Google on the request of the individuals involved and because the original publishers of the links cannot legally be ordered to take them down."

A letter, claiming to be from convicted murderer Tony King, implicates Dolores Vázquez in the murder of Rocio Wanninkhof: "Alicia Hornos, the mother of Rocio Wanninkhof, the Mijas youngster who was assassinated in 1999, has told Telecinco television that she has received two letters which have implied Dolores Vázquez in her daughter’s death.

She says the letters, implicate Dolores Vázquez in the killing.

The letters, which are now with her lawyer, Marcos García Montes, are being checked by calligraphy experts to see if they were indeed written by Tony King, who remains in prison.

The letters claim that King, Vázquez and King’s friend, Robert Graham, were on the waste ground where Rocio died, playing with her underwear passing it between them.

Hit men hunt Freddie Thompson in the Philippines ?

GANGSTER Freddie Thompson is moving to the Far East after fresh threats against his life.

Thompson is understood to be relocating to the Philippines after rivals vowed to have him killed in 2011.

The drug boss, who has been living between Holland and the UK since he was forced to flee Spain last summer, has reportedly started looking at luxury properties in Manila.

'Fat' Freddie fears a new assassination attempt following a failed truce in the Crumlin-Drimnagh gangland feud.

The Filipino capital is the top choice for Thompson as it has no extradition treaty with Ireland and the mobster already has drug smuggling contacts in the city.

He is making the move after his biggest supplier - Christy ‘Dapper Don' Kinahan - dropped him when Spanish police issued an arrest warrant for the Coombe criminal.

It is understood that Thompson has been warned by Kinahan's associates not to return to Spain, where he is wanted on the warrant for questioning over Christy Kinahan's billion euro drug and money laundering syndicate.

A source said: “The word is that Thompson is relocating to avoid the warrant.

“He has not been arrested by any police force since it was issued but his paranoia is such that he wants out of Europe altogether.”

The Herald exclusively revealed last month how Thompson had been living it up in Alicante, as well as spending time in Liverpool, Birmingham, Amsterdam and Dublin.DISCLAIMER:Text may be subject to copyright. This blog does not claim copyright to any such text. At the hearning the Supreme Court heard an application by the FSC for the assessment of damages against Michael Whitting, Anthony Whitting and Stephen Putnam who were formally directors of Rock Financial Services. RFS had been wound up by the Supreme Court on the application of the FSC in 2003.
The FSC had waited before taking action to allow the liquidators to undertake the pursuit and collection of assets and for a criminal investigation to be undertaken.
However, in the face of what it describes as the 'difficulties' encountered by the liquidators the FSC issued proceedings for regulatory breaches seeking a civil restitution order, among other orders, against the directors of RFS."

Jawbone rekindles cruise ship mystery - CNN.com

Jawbone rekindles cruise ship mystery - CNN.com: "If the human jawbone that washed up on a beach in Aruba late last year wasn't Natalee Holloway's, whose was it?
Authorities continue to investigate. They say the jawbone is human and likely was from a Caucasian. It held a single tooth.
Ten people have vanished while vacationing in the Caribbean in the last 15 years, according to the Aruba Missing Persons website. One of them was Amy Lynn Bradley, then 23, who disappeared 12 years ago while on a vacation cruise with her family.
Bradley and her mother, father and younger brother were on board the cruise ship 'Rhapsody of the Seas.' The ship had just left Oranjestad, Aruba, and was heading to Curacao, in the Netherlands Antilles, on the day she went missing -- March 24, 1998.
Bradley left her cabin early that morning, barefoot and carrying her cigarettes and lighter. It appears that she vanished while the ship was docking in Curacao.
The last person to see Bradley, according to her family, was her father, at about 5:30 a.m. Earlier, she had been with members of the cruise ship's band, 'Blue Orchid.'"

Prostitution ring broken up in Alicante and Murcia, exchanged by the gang members for cars.

Prostitution ring broken up in Alicante and Murcia: "Civil Guard said in a press release on Tuesday that investigations began in October 2009 into a gang of Albanian criminals known to have been previously involved in organised burglary and which was believed to now be involved in sexual exploitation.

Two of the leaders were located in Orihuela Costa and Mazarrón, Murcia, from where the network was led with the help of a Romanian woman who oversaw the team of women. It’s understood that the victims were brought over to Spain with the false promise of work, only to find their identity papers confiscated by the leaders of the gang once they arrived in the country.

They were recruited by other Romanian nationals resident in Alicante province.

They were then put to work as prostitutes, under the threat of physical harm to either themselves or to their families.

Europa Press notes that up to 20 women worked for the network at one point and that some were, on occasion, exchanged by the gang members for cars."

satanic sect based on the island of Tenerife,Grave robbers steal 7 bodies from a Tenerife cemetery

Grave robbers steal 7 bodies from a Tenerife cemetery: "Civil Guard are searching for grave robbers who looted five graves at the cemetery in Arico, Tenerife, and stole seven bodies.

The desecration was discovered on New Year’s Day when a local woman went to the cemetery to lay flowers at her relatives’ graves.

The local Mayor, Eladio Morales, told Europa Press that the graves which were opened are the oldest in the cemetery. One is that of two brothers who died after a flu epidemic in 1920, while the remainder are from the 1930s.

He believes it’s the work of a satanic sect based elsewhere on the island and noted another incident four years ago when grave robbers stole ‘parts’ of bodies. The Mayor added that hens and other dead animals have, on occasion, been found outside the cemetery."

Residents urge call-girls move near Plaza Mayor | Costa del Sol | News | The Largest English Language Newspapers in Spain

Euro Weekly News | Residents urge call-girls move near Plaza Mayor | Costa del Sol | News | The Largest English Language Newspapers in Spain: "RESIDENTS and business owners in the areas surrounding the Guadalhorce Industrial Estate and Alameda de Colon in Malaga have proposed an alternative area for prostitutes. Prostitution is a problem in the area and when new municipal laws come into effect, prostitutes and their clients can be fined for working in those areas, less than 200 metres from inhabited areas, schools or commercial establishments.

Therefore, residents have proposed that they take their trade to a plot in the Arraijanal area, 500 metres from the Plaza Mayor shopping centre, near the train tracks.

The President of the Centro Sur Association which is proposing the move claims the area is safe, well-lit, built-up, and accessible by train and car.

Tatiana Garcia, who represents the working girls on the Guadalhorce Industrial Estate has said that a group of women would be willing to visit the area and consider the move, although the women who work at night prefer to remain at the estate and will protest if they are not allowed to work in peace."

200 drug dealers could be released across Spain as 6,000 cases are reviewed under new rules.

Euro Weekly News | New Penal Code tougher on drivers, easy on dealers | Spain | News | The Largest English Language Newspapers in Spain: "200 drug dealers could be released across Spain as 6,000 cases are reviewed under new rules. This is as a result of Spain’s new Penal Code which came into recently. In effect it outlines tougher sentences for some crimes, and becoming more ‘understanding’ towards minor drug dealers concentrating efforts on major traffickers.

The Government expects 239 of 65,000 prisoners will be released, including immigrants who have been sent to prison for selling counterfeit goods.

The new code describes such activity as a fault and not a crime if the goods are worth less than €400. Drivers will notice the effects of the new penal code most.

The Guardia Civil can now impound a car if it is caught on radar speeding over 200kph on a motorway, or 120kph in town.

Drivers found with more than 1.2 grams of alcohol per litre of blood will also have their vehicles impounded and confiscated forever.

Anyone caught driving in the wrong direction, modifying road signs, covering a radar, driving with no licence, or refuse to undergo alcohol or drugs tests will also lose their vehicles."

This ring was the target of last year's major operation by Spanish and other European police forces.'"
