Train bombing witnesses claim newspaper put pressure on them to change their story

The two Romanian women claim that the El Mundo newspaper tried to get them not to find Jamal Zougam guilty.Jamal Zougam - Archive Photo EFE Two protected witnesses, both Romanian women, in the Madrid Train Bombings case have accused the El Mundo newspaper of being pressurised to find Jamal Zougam, one of the main accused in the case, not guilty. Zougam was eventually found guilty and sent to prison for 42,917 years. The women say that they were offered improvements in their jobs, and help to stop a savings bank from evicting one of them from her home. Real Madrid shirts were given as gifts. Both witnesses say they told the truth to the court, and have denounced the pressure of the journalists. The complaint was presented on Tuesday this week by the lawyer, Gonzalo Boye, before the court which heard the original M-11 case. Meanwhile the original sentence has been ratified by the Supreme Court.
