The Guardia Civil the region of Murcia have been investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a diver who was shot by a harpoon in San Javier, resulting in two people being charged with reckless homicide. Initial inspections suggested that the cause of the incident was accidental but contradictions in the statement of witnesses, the evidence found inside the boat and diving equipment, as well as the nature of the injuries sustained by the diver made investigators suspicious. After taking to the sea to recreate the incident, as well as calling on ballistic experts, evidence collated then suggested that the diver was shot by a harpoon whilst in the water and from a distance, presumably random, by one of his companions. Therefore, the two companions, both Spanish nationals, were arrested and charged with an offense of reckless homicide.
