Lleida Civil Guard arrest three and impound eight kilos of a hallucinogenic drug

The Lleida Guardia Civil in Cataluña has found more than 8 kilos of Ayahuasca and detained two people and indicted another in the municipalities in Mollerussa and Torà. They face charges of a possible crime against public health. The drink is considered as a narcotic drug and therefore prohibited, and it was hidden in two packages which had been sent by post from Peru and Brazil. Two plastic bottles contained 5.380 kilos of Ayahuasca. The Guardia Civil have arrested the 39 year old man M.D.P. to whom the packages were addressed, and the second detainee has been named as 60 year old A.B.C. The indicted man is 33 year old S.G.C. It’s the first time that the Guardia Civil has seen this substance in the province of Lleida and they think the three men were going to use if for their consumption. The brew was first found academically in the 50’s by a Harvard professor, Richard Evens Schultes, who found it was used for divinatory use and for healing in the peoples of the Colombia Amazon. It is made from boiling vine leaves with others from any number of plants, known for their hallucinogenic properties.
