The ex Mayor of the Málaga village of Alcaucín, José Manuel Martín Alba, and seven civil servants have been arrested in the ‘Arcos case’ which refers to real estate corruption in the Axarquía. The ex Mayor was arrested at his home this morning and more arrests have not been ruled out. The operation was carried out by the police from the UCO, Central Operative Unit of the Civil Guard three of whom travelled from Madrid to take part in and supervise the operation. The Guardia Civil is also searching the offices of the Patronato Provincial de Recaudación in Málaga today, and has also been searching some lawyers offices and private homes. The Ex Mayor of Alcaucín has already spent three months in prison three years ago as a result of the Arcos case which sees some 50 accused and which uncovered the illegal construction and legalisation of homes built on non-buildable land in the Axarquía.
