The Malaga court has sentenced the Spanish killer for just three years for the attack which took the life of dad of three Stephen Mallon

The Malaga court has sentenced the Spanish killer for just three years for the attack which took the life of dad of three Stephen Mallon. The bar brawl also left his sons with severe injuries. According to local witnesses, the incident started over a girl who used to date one of the accused, outside a disco-bar called La Estrella in the Axarquia village of Cómpeta. Stephen Mallon was subsequently dazed when a beer bottle smashed over his head. After receiving the impact he hid on a balcony before being pushed from a 13 ft ledge. The Scottish holidaymaker, 49, died 11 days later due to a severe brain haemorrhage suffered during the bar brawl. “During the fight, all the defendants attacked the injured Brits with the intention of physically harming them,”State Prosecutor Cecilia Solana told the court: “All the defendants were willing participants. The wronged Brits could only defend themselves against the blows they received.” Mr Mallon’s sons said they were attacked by over 40 men (of which only 15 took the stand as defendants) armed with belts, irons bars and flower pots, both suffered broken bones during the orgy of violence, simply because they were British. The defendants claim the tourists were the aggressors, provoking the ‘fight’ when one of the twins danced with the girlfriend of one of the men.

Over the weekend the FCO through the UK press have made a series of stark warnings to British tourist making their way or holidaying in Spain alerting them to be aware of highway robbers marauding Spanish roads and highways who are targeting foreign-registered and rented vehicles. The warnings are made on the Official UK Government FCO website (https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/safety-and-security) Where Under the individual country foreign travel advice page, under ‘Spain’ the FCO in their great diplomatic wisdom and displaying a total lack of sensitiveness to the people here has included ‘Gibraltar’ in the same country page as Spain. The FCO’s individual country travel page, gives advice to British Nationals who are planning or going to a foreign destination, alerting them with current and up to date advice, on things like safety and security, crime, terrorism, local laws and entry requirements amongst other issues, that a would-be traveller may encounter when visiting a foreign country. FCO Issue Warnings to UK Tourist of Crime on Spanish Roads The matter came up during the weekend, when the UK media reported on warnings issued by the FCO to British travellers visiting Spain where they warned of gangs operating on popular tourist routes, between Barcelona and Alicante, and across Madrid and down this area of Andalucía The Foreign Office warned: “Be aware of ‘highway pirates’ who target foreign-registered and hire cars, especially those towing caravans. Some will (forcefully) try to make you stop, claiming there is something wrong with your car or that you have damaged theirs. “If you decide to stop to check the condition of your/their vehicle, stop in a public area with lights like a service station, and be extremely wary of anyone offering help.” The FCO also warned that tourists should also be wary of bogus police officers in plain clothes travelling in unmarked cars, saying that in all traffic-related matters, Spanish police officers will be in uniform, and all police officers, including those in plain clothes, carry official ID. Unmarked police vehicles and have flashing electronic sign on the rear window which reads Policía (Police) or Guardia Civil (Civil Guard), and normally have blue flashing lights. Adding “Genuine police officers will only ask you to show them your documents and will not ask for your bag or wallet/purse.”

A SCOTS tourist died trying to defend his teenage sons from a savage attack by a Spanish mob, a court heard yesterday.
Stephen Mallon was pushed off a 13ft ledge after he stepped in to protect the two boys and two friends from a mob, prosecutors claimed.
The 49-year-old roofer, from Rutherglen, near Glasgow, died later in hospital in June 2009 from a fractured skull he sustained in the mountain village of Competa, near the Costa del Sol.
He had been celebrating the 17th birthdays of his twin sons, Carl and Peter, at La Estrella Disco Bar when a fight erupted.
The Mallon twins claimed in court they were attacked simply because they were British.
Fifteen Spaniards are being tried at a court in Malaga. Jose Jimenez Martin denies homicide, Luis Romero Allsop and Juan Ortega Gonzalez deny assault with a dangerous weapon and 12 others deny affray.

The Torremolinos Development Association has filed a host of complaints with the town hall, claiming the tax is unfair, excessive and illegal.
The group claims some popular establishments could face annual bills in excess of €1,000.
The tax will not be limited to newly installed awnings but levied on all existing ones.
